CONTROSTM Leak Detection Sensor Suite

Hydrocarbons in seawater are a multiphase mix consisting of an oil phase, gas bubbles, dissolved gas in seawater, formation water, cold seawater and solid gas hydrate phase. In order to detect and localize any hydrocarbon emission at the earliest stage possible and under any environmental conditions, the CONTROS™ Leak Detection Sensor Suite uses a combination of direct and indirect methods, utilizing the fact that the oil phase contains significant amounts of PAH, whereas the gas phase contains mainly methane.

This allows for

  • a quick and reliable detection and localization of even the smallest hydrocarbon emissions,
  • an accurate qualification and validation of the emissions, reducing the false alarm rate significantly,
  • an accurate quantification of the emission, to get a feeling for the size of the leak.

Detect™ Leak Detection Software Suite

The Detect™ Leak Detection Software Suite has been developed to ensure quick and reliable subsea leak detection through trained ROV pilots and technicians.
  • An integrated graphical display and an optional interface to the ROV operator display allows for easy detection and localization through simple status flags on the sea chart (green, yellow, red).
  • An integrated expert mode allows for subsequent qualification, verification and quantification of the emissions and provides an impartial decision criterion for the operation.
  • A Shapefile Geo-Tiff and BSB import and export allows for blending of several information layers like status flags with pipeline tracks and a sea chart.
  • An integrated Survey Planning and Simulation Tool reduces the needed ship time significantly.
